A few months ago, I promised I would come back and give a little review on this book...
so I shall say a few words.
so I shall say a few words.
Just a few words...because it was a one of those books that I had a really hard time "getting into".
Hmmm....that doesn't happen too often, but it does make one thankful for all of those good books that just take right off and captivate you from the first few pages.
I found The Scent of Water to be quite "rambly"...I am not sure if that is even a word, but I just could not quite track easily at the beginning. I had been so excited to bring this book along on our vacation...and was so looking forward to a quaint little "English read"...hoping to savor a bite of scone and even sip some tea. It did draw you into that some...but not enough evidently that I didn't seem to mind when I had to put it down.
The ending did bring some great satisfaction. The book seemed to finally capture and define what the whole point of the title of the book was about.
I actually looked up the scripture that was being quoted and found it in Job, chapter fourteen, verses seven thru nine...
"There is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will
sprout again,
and its shoots will not die.
If its roots grow old
in the ground
and its stump starts to die
in the soil,
the scent of water
makes it thrive
and produce twigs
like a sapling."

In the story line of the book, the scent of water was referred to as "renewal" or "breath of encouragement from the Lord."
I loved this beautiful picture of the Lord's tender touch on our lives, as He comes to us to encourage us, to not give up...
to trust!
It made the whole book for me...and have thought of it so much since finishing the book...so there we go...what a lesson on not giving up on a book, and never giving up that the Lord will come at just the right moment to bring us what we need.
He is our great provider!

To make up for not being able to dig right in with The Scent of Water, this next book more than made up for it!
Peace Like A River was a superb read...an exceptional read on loving relationships in a family!
When the going got tough...they were there for each other, and in such a courageous way!
The story is told from a young boys perspective.

It was a delight and pleasure to get to know Rueben..."an eleven-year-old asthmatic boy in the Midwest who has reason to believe in miracles. Along with his sister and father, Reuben finds himself on a cross-country search for his outlaw older brother who has been controversially charged with murder. Their journey unfolds like a revelation, and its conclusion shows how family, love, and faith can stand up to the most terrifying of enemies, and the most tragic of fates."
LOVED the portrayal of relationship in this book!
ahhh....the kindness between one another...lovely!
"You know you have read a good book, when you turn to the last page and you feel a little as if you have just lost a friend."
When I saw this quote, I thought of Peace Like A River.
And...thanks to my good friend Cindy, this is my current read and sooo enjoying!
This is the first book I have read by this author, and I hope it won't be my last!
David McCullough is an amazing author...I am just finding that out. He is my sons favorite author...and I can't believe I have waited this long to read one of his great works.
I am about half way and have learned so much about life in Paris.
I love how they take time to enjoy the beautiful gardens...in fact they take and allow the space to have the gorgeous and gigantic gardens...
and one does not rush through anything...especially dinner!
Such a good read!
Also on my Kindle just finished Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst...most excellent! She is a wonderful author...so real and has a beautiful heart to look to the Lord.
and....up next to be read is one suggested by another wonderful friend, Irita...
Surprised By Oxford
by Carolyn Weber...this is her testimony of how she was witnessed to at Oxford...
she tried to argue intellectually...
but it was the love of those who were sharing the Lord with her that drew her to the Lord.
love these fabulous books!
Better get back to my great book! :)
Would love for you to share what you are reading!
